SMOKING........

There has been a lot of hype in the papers and on the television channels about the ban on smoking on screen. There have been long discussions, debates, hours of talks, and much more to burn our heads with thoughts ,but at the end of the day there law still exists and will be implemented from this august.According to me the ban in some terms is justified and in some terms is not.As we all know there is no limit to imagination and what we see on the screen is 'supposed to be fiction' so the people making movies are justified on their part. The sad thing is when I hear people like mahesh bhatt justifying their part the guy just wants to sell his movies like anything for eg nazar, zeher, murder, tumsa nahi dekha.......the list goes on...the guy just uses skin show to make his movies work these movies have no substance i.e nothing at all that is watchable. That guy says that we don't use smoking sequences for glamourisation. That person for one surely does it to make money.People like shyam benegal are still justified as at least they have something to offer .Then comes the part of the great censor board itself. The guys are totally out of their minds.I don't think they have ever seen channels like ETC and the trailors of the upcoming movies shown on them. That is where strict implementation of laws is required. You see people do start smoking if they see their stars doing the same.So according to me the only solution out is whenever such sequences are there in the movie the same person smoking on screen should in the starting say that smoking is injurious to your health people don't smoke.... and I think the problem will be solved.

well... its not just the prospect of skin show and show biz n concern with movies... the point i want 2 make out is that smoking on the screen is not generally just publicising the movie but instead its more of a commercial gain for the movie makers as they re in collaboration with the cigrtte brands who instead are enodrsing their own products on contracts with these movie makers , to publicise their brand. Just an extra bit of info, thats it.

i was thinking of the same thing lately...and i actually agree with shubhra that smoking is someones fiefdom..its a matter of choice and its not really affecting the enviornment is it. the suffering is individual, if a person smokes no 1 else gets affected...similarly prostitutes...no one cant actually stop u from enjoying a night of sex can they? i mean next they'll put a ban on sex..u cant have ne more kids period. Basically the whole things a scam acc to me. any and everyone has a right to smoke and cigar companies comply with the governments rule by firstly the duty and secondly the box comes with a statuatory warning

Dhruv..You really don't know about passive smoking. Its equally dangerous as active smoking.Perhaps you tend to stay only at home and hence smokers are just ur elders. But in the world..if you move out, you'll come across smokers at every stage- while travelling or dining out etc.. For just ONE active smoker-- there are MANY passive smokers!!

ok.....my comment is somewhat late...but i found this a good debatable topic....so here goes...
a) first i dont think banning anything onscreen will have any effect really....coz as shubhra said...people will still continue to do what they want to...
b)though u left the point dhruv n shubhra did give the details of passive smoking...i'll say this agn...passive smoking is actually more injurious to health than actual smoking...coz though smoking does effect u...at some point ur body gets used to it somehwat...but in passive smokers nth of this sort happens....
ok.......loong comment..but hope ive got my point across clearly
